Why are Gm (aka detroit diesel) engines such junk?
Navistar,Cummins and Cat can all make good engines.
Every Gm diesel I have ever driven had no guts and used too much fuel. What gives?

Maybe accountants design their engines to cost less pennies, or they use planned obsolescence and planned breakdown design principles.Buy foreing vehicles to teach these guys about honesty.

No kidding. As you will notice, I just posted a question about my 91 GM 6.2l diesel. It crapped out on me. I can’t totally complain though as I do have over 200,000m on it without major work……yet? I will no in the morning if it is going to cost a fortune to fix this time.
NEXT TRUCK…..CUMMINS DIESEL!

Have a 84-85 new 6.2 still in crate, complete except for starter, would sell for 3,000.

In 1927 when Alfred P sloan (ceo of GM) instrumented Planned Obsolescence, He set the pace for every American manufacturer to design a ‘die-life’ expectancy into every product we buy. General Motors is solely responsible for bringing us short lived consumer products. Your ignorance and continued support of General Motors only fuels the flames of the ‘screw you’ society we live in. If Alfred P Sloan of GM had thought about designing cars that would last, then 75 years later there would have never have been a 6.2 diesel engine or Caprice Classic for that matter.
